Handlooms in a silk weaving workshop

The atelier

Production first.
Market second.

ORAA exists so a Banaras pit loom and a Kanchi korvai house can sell at the same table — without a stockist rewriting the price.

The house

ORAA is a market of floors.

We do not mill generic catalogues. We contract weaving clusters, list pieces with days-on-loom and GI origin, and dispatch from the unit that made them. Retail buyers shop the same floor as boutique owners — the rate changes with quantity, not with a middle label.

Gold kadhua zari on wine silk

How it is made

Four stages. One origin.

From dye-yard to finishing table — the path every ORAA listing takes before it is packed for you.

  1. Silk yarn hanks hanging after dyeing
    01

    Yarn & dye

Silk is wound and dyed in the cluster — ikat tied before the colour, Banarasi and Kanjivaram dyed as warp. The lot number stays with the piece.

    Colour born in the yard
  2. Weaver passing a shuttle through gold silk
    02

    The loom

Pit looms and frame looms. Kadhua motifs thrown independently. Korvai borders locked with three shuttles. Days on loom are printed on the ORAA tag — not invented in a studio.

    Handloom, timed
  3. Hands inspecting a finished gold-bordered saree
    03

    Check & finish

Every saree is hand-examined for broken zari, join, and fall. Then it is folded on the finishing table — the same table you see in the listing photographs.

    100% hand inspection
  4. Stacked Kanjivaram silks on a wooden table
    04

    Market & dispatch

Listed on ORAA under the cluster’s name. Packed at the unit. Shipped PAN-India. Boutique orders leave in dozens; a single drape leaves in the same kraft.

From the floor, not a godown
